FCCLA Facts

1945:   FHA (Future Homemakers of America) was established in Chicago, IL

1946:   Oklahoma was the 18th state to affiliate to FHA

1971:   Hero was added to FHA.   (FHA-Hero)

1994:   Home Economics name was changed to Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS).

1999:   FHA-Hero was changed to FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.)

 

FCCLA colors:   RED:  Courage, Strength and Determination

                   WHITE:  Sincerity of Purpose and Integrity of Action

FCCLA Motto:    Toward New Horizons

FCCLA Flower:   Red Rose (joy in everyday living)

National FCCLA Week:  Week of Valentine's Day

FCCLA National Headquarters: Restin, VA

53 State Associations including District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands

Mission Statement

The mission of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development; creative and critical thinking; interpersonal communications; practical knowledge; and career preparation.
